Augmented Reality Tours

Augmented reality Visors are ideally suited to tourism as they can overlay a visitors view with background information and interesting information, or even computer generated representations of a historic site as it would have looked in the past.

The Museum of London's Streetmuseum app is designed to bring old London to life as you walk its streets. It reveals key points in history overlaying the modern scene.

Some degree of exploration is required to get the most from Streetmuseum, as some of its images depict places which no longer exist, but with some patience and a little detective work, you can track down the locations with information contained in the picture.

Look at the example below, and imagine you are visiting the ruins of a castle. All you can see in front of you is a pile of masonry. Now imagine you put on an augmented reality visor (as you would a pair of glasses). The augmented reality visor overlays a computer generated image of the castle, as it was in Medieval times, over your natural vision. Move the cursor across the image below to represent this. In this example you would be able to move around the ruins and look at the castle from many different angles, comparing its current appearance to how it would have looked.
